Who owns a pair or three?
At every running event or Expo we get asked many many questions but one of the most consistent is...
“So who wears FiveFingers then?”. To try and answer that here is a few of the many that do. If you’d like to be added to the page simply send us an e-mail with a your reasons for choosing the FiveFingers.
James Küegler
Onroad / Offroad distance runner
I felt that by running as close to barefoot as possible, I could promote motion of the joints within the foot, strengthen the muscles in the foot, and in turn become a faster and more efficient runner. The experience was so positive, I now do the majority of my training and racing in the Fives. My greatest achievement in the shoes is running 2:42:52 at the 2010 Gold Coast Marathon.
Tamati Ellison
Rugby Union Player
“Love the Fives, wear them to the Gym, shopping, EVERYTHING”
Paul Charteris
Ultra distance trail runner
“Thanks for the new Treks. I have been testing them for the past week in the Whakarewarewa forest - they are without a doubt the best piece of trail running footwear I have ever owned”.
Dayna Porter Chiplin
Stuntwoman
I use FiveFingers because they are the only shoes I have ever been able to use for everything in my stunt career, Training, Fighting, falling, swimming, Diving, running, Gymnastics... the list goes on!!!
Ella Harris
Junior Runner
Ella has been wearing her own Bikila’s for a few months but has been borrowing her mums for ages. At the ripe age of 13 Ella has an amazing running career ahead of her having recently completed the 2011 Christchurch 10km in a super fast 38.50mins, inspirational to say the least.
Dharbhasana Lynn
Ultra Ultra Distance Runner
“Whilst I love Barefoot running most, The Fives gave me the ability to explore new terrain where my bare feet could not take me. The Fives eliminated the fear factor of running roads, both sealed and unsealed and extremely rough remote trails, creating a new found strength”.
Daniel Woods
Runner of all distances.
We first met Daniel at the 2010 Gold Coast marathon and continued to keep a keen eye on his progress. One of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and a keen runner in Five’s. He recently won his age group in the Auckland Run 5km series.
Shane Archbald
NZ Rep Cyclist
“I'm Obliviously no runner, But I found the Five's Speeds to be great for use on a day to day basis which required a lot of walking (in my terms). For instance, I wore them to the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games and I found them to be super comfy and good for my body though out the long periods of standing and walking"
Mule Bar
All Natural energy bar
Mule bar wears FiveFingers because his nuts feel great after a long trail run in his KSO’s
Sam Wreford
Marathon Runner
Sam owns multiple pairs of Fivefingers and can be regularly seen training in them in his home town of Timaru. With his sites set on the Olympic Games Marathon he is a runner to keep an eye on.
Jono Lester
Porsche Racing Driver
I’ve worn my FiveFingers every single day for the last five months – without fail – for my regular motorsport training, no matter what my seven day fitness schedule throws at me, my FiveFingers are up to the task. And not only that, I’ve built up muscles in my feet and legs that I didn’t even know where there! I won’t wear anything else again...”
Andy Kenworthy
Writer & Editor
"I use them for training runs up the hill opposite my house and I do a short confidence course on the way. It's really helped me get a bit more agile and improved my running style heaps."
Tim Jones
Mulebar NZ & CrossFit Trainee
Steve Gurney
Adventure Racer
"5 fingers are definitely a step in the right direction. Excuse the pun, but it's true. Thick midsoles and controlling features in the shoes we’ve been moving away from what our feet are naturally built for. Feet are very flexible to adapt to all surfaces, and up till now they've gotten lazy and diseased. 5 Fingers are helping us get back to strong feet, healthy knees, hips and spines, simply by being natural. I wish I had these at the start of my sporting career!"
Brendon Keenan
Long time Barefoot Runner
"Being relatively newer to the running community, barefoot running has given me the foot/leg strength and running efficiency to sustain high mileage leading to a sub-3 hour marathon and the ability to compete at ultra distance events (100km). Now the VFF Bikila LS has enabled me to log more mileage and race in 'barefoot-mode'
